Faculty Research

UIC Design faculty members are regularly recognized internationally for their research, publishing, and collaborations.

Design faculty have received research support from the Fulbright US Scholar program, the Graham Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Science Foundation. On campus, faculty develop innovative research-driven coursework and collaborate regularly with other units, including at the UIC Innovation Center, on research related to healthcare delivery. The Morningstar Faculty Fellows program further supports faculty research.

Faculty routinely exhibit in international exhibition venues; these have included the Armory Show (New York), the Berlin Art Book Fair, the Centre Pompidou (Paris), Design Miami, Dutch Design Week, INDEX (Copenhagen), Maison & Objet (Paris), the Salone del Mobile (Milan), the Museum Tinguely (Basel), and the Venice Biennale.

The work of our faculty’s professional studios, publishing efforts, and consulting activities are frequently recognized by awards from the leading professional associations of our field: AIGA, the professional association for design, and IDSA, the Industrial Design Society of America. UIC Design faculty often present at the annual meetings of AIGA and IDSA as well as ACM SIGGRAPH, IEEE International, the Society of Experiential Graphic Designers (SEGO), and TypeCon, among other conferences.

Faculty are also regularly invited to leading design schools across the world to participate in studio and thesis reviews, give public lectures, and conduct workshops.
