Blackboard for Faculty

This platform is used for many design courses, and exclusively during the Foundation Year—providing syllabus, project descriptions, templates, grading, and assignment submission links.

Blackboard Basics

Make sure your course is available to students by going to Customization » Properties and Use Term Availability and Duration. You may also hide sections for future reveal, use the Student Preview mode (gray eye icon to the right on the top bar) to view currently visible content. To see your class’ student ID photos, go to Course Tools » Class Photo Roster.

For technical support, contact LTS (Learning Technology Solutions) by email or call 312-412-0003 x1 and ask to be connected to a Blackboard specialist.

Foundation Instructors and Studio Coordinators

In order to receive course content, the Foundation Studio Coordinator must be added to each section’s shell:

  1. Users and Groups
  2. Users
  3. click on Find Users to Enroll (at top in gray)
  4. Username: (keep box blank) + Role: Teaching Assistant + click Browse button
  5. Search: Username » Contains (enter coordinator’s NetID) + Go button
  6. check box left of coordinator’s name + Submit
  7. Submit to proceed

 

Foundation Studio Coordinators must prepare course content (Build Content » Create Item » Syllabus and Assessments » Assignment where students can upload work) and up grading (Grade Center » Full Grade Center » Create Column).

Copy onto each section’s Blackboard:

  1. Packages and Utilities
  2. Course Copy
  3. click Browse button
  4. Select All
  5. Submit
