Research

UIC Design research tends to focus on three areas of professional design practice: communications and publications, objects and products, and interactions and services.

Independent publishing, information design, and typographic practices are strengths of the graphic design faculty. Designed objects, interdisciplinary product development, and design entrepreneurship are all represented among industrial design faculty practices. Crossing between disciplines and aligning with the university mission is a strong interest in design for social impact. It is important to note that these areas of creative production do not only motivate the faculty research but also the curriculum, as there is an extremely close relation between what we do and what we teach.
