Faculty Practice and Research
UIC Design faculty members make significant contributions to the development and application of knowledge through their research and design activities.
The school faculty have been engaged in an increasingly recognized range of professional, academic, and cultural activities over the last decade, and have been published and awarded on local, regional, national, and international levels. Faculty have also exhibited in numerous international exhibition venues including Armory Show (New York), Berlin Art Book Fair, Centre Pompidou (Paris), Design Miami, Dutch Design Week, INDEX (Copenhagen), Maison & Objet (Paris), Salone del Mobile (Milan), and Tinguely Museum (Basel).
The work of our faculty’s professional studios, publishing efforts, and consulting activities are frequently recognized by awards from the leading professional associations of our field: AIGA, the professional association for design, and IDSA, the Industrial Design Society of America. UIC Design faculty often present at the annual meetings of AIGA and IDSA as well as ACM SIGGRAPH, IEEE International, the Society of Experiential Graphic Designers (SEGO), and TypeCon among others. Faculty are regularly invited to leading design schools across the country and in Europe and Mexico to participate in studio and thesis reviews, give public lectures, and conduct workshops. UIC Design faculty have received grants from the Fulbright US Scholar program, Graham Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, and National Science Foundation.
